The plane created by the steel rectangle is broken by pieces that extend both through and beyond the frame. This work belongs to Stankiewicz’s easel series, which explores “push-pull” to create depth on a flat surface and demonstrates the tensions that define a plane.
As you walk around the work, notice how the framing of the objects shifts. This three-dimensional form reminds us that a window’s two-dimensional nature limits its perspective. Depending on how you construct your view, the objects in the work may appear closer together or be cropped out of the frame entirely.
