The Museum Club brings together Dartmouth students who share a common interest in art, material culture, and museums. Museum Club members serve as a bridge between the student body and the museum by promoting awareness of the Hood Museum's collections and resources, planning and hosting student events, and advising Hood Museum staff. The Museum Club is led by Hood Museum staff and Dartmouth students on the Museum Club Leadership Committee.
The Museum Club meets on Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the Hood Museum of Art. Dinner is provided each week. Meetings and club events are scheduled during the fall, winter, and spring terms.
Museum Club Membership:
The Museum Club is open to all Dartmouth students. Students who sign up are encouraged to attend all meetings throughout the term and bring their unique skills and perspectives to shape student engagement with the Hood Museum of Art. Museum Club members will:
- Work with museum staff to launch new student engagement initiatives.
- Plan and host the Hood After 5 student party.
- Enjoy behind-the-scenes opportunities and meet with artists from around the world.
- Gain experience working with museum professionals in a museum setting.
- Meet other students interested in museums/the arts over weekly meetings (Thursdays, 5:00–6:00 pm).
Museum Club Leadership Committee:
Students who participate in the Museum Club may be nominated by Hood Museum staff to serve on the Museum Club Leadership Committee (MCLC). MCLC members can serve on the leadership committee for a full academic year. Responsibilities include leading club meetings, planning and organizing activities in collaboration with Hood Museum staff, and helping to manage club emails and communications. Students in MCLC gain access to additional professional development opportunities and a service award.
Member highlights:
"I am an art history major, and I enjoy the opportunity to interact with art beyond the classroom. I especially love the special tours and early previews to upcoming exhibitions, as it is incredibly interesting to learn about the curatorial process and the application of the theory I learn in class to actual art objects."
—Sadie Weil '25
"Leading the [Museum Club] committee offers a chance to play a pivotal role . . . I love fostering a stronger sense of community cohesion, bringing students together to connect, unwind, and create."
—Katherine Ginger '27
