The Hood Museum mixes art into the daily lives of Dartmouth students with Student Art Lending at Dartmouth (SALAD). SALAD allows current undergraduates and graduate students to borrow and live with museum artworks.

Developed in consultation with Hood Museum curators and Dartmouth students, the SALAD collection reflects a broad range of artistic approaches and viewpoints to connect to the diversity of student perspectives on campus. Featured artists include Ai Weiwei, Romare Bearden, Ambreen Butt, Jiha Moon, Cara Romero, Mickalene Thomas, Paula Wilson, and many more. You can preview artwork in the collection here.

How Student Art Lending at Dartmouth works:

  1. Preview available works in the SALAD collection here.
  2. Come to the Hood Museum on Pickup Day to secure a spot in the virtual line (TIP: Arrive early! There are a limited number of works available on a first-come, first-served basis).
  3. Select a work from the collection.
  4. Complete and sign a loan form.
  5. Take the artwork home and decorate your space.
  6. Return the artwork to the museum before you leave campus.

As of fall 2024, all artwork is currently on loan, though we periodically receive returns during the academic year. Please add your name to the waitlist if you'd like to be notified when artwork becomes available. The next SALAD Pickup Day is September 26, 2025.

If you'd like to learn more about SALAD or inquire about available work, please email Campus Engagement Manager Jenna Blair at jenna.m.blair@dartmouth.edu.
