The Hood Museum is open to school and community audiences.
For all visitors, we aim to stimulate dialogue, critical thinking, active and interdisciplinary learning, and also to offer occasions for play and transformative experiences through interactions with works of art.
DARTMOUTH FACULTY AND STUDENTS
The Hood's collection is deeply embedded within the curriculum of the College. We serve our College audiences in the galleries and the Bernstein Center for Object Study. Here, Dartmouth faculty and students engage with objects that deepen and expand upon student engagement with the material covered in class. Each session in the Bernstein Center for Object Study is curated with faculty specifically for that individual class. We also work with faculty and students to create exhibitions on view in the galleries that relate to specific Dartmouth courses. We promote engagement and discussion with original works for art that strengthen the academic and intellectual goals of our college audiences.
The Hood offers opportunities for co-curricular engagement, including Museum Collecting 101 and the Hood Senior Internship Program. We also partner with various groups across campus to produce thought-provoking events centered around works of art.
K-12 SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY
Community visitors of all ages engage with our collections and special exhibitions in a number of ways. For K-12 schools, guided visits to the museum are designed to support state curricular goals, teach students to think critically about works of art, deepen their understanding of self in the world, and inspire wonder and curiosity through engagement with original works of art. In addition, K-12 teachers are invited to explore our online educator resources or attend teacher workshops to discuss methods for integrating object-based learning into their classroom experience. Additionally, throughout the year we offer a range of gallery and studio programs designed to meet the interests and needs of adults, families, and children.
