Act 11: Night Attack of the 47 Rōnin: The attack on Moronao’s estate occurs in the dead of a snowy winter’s night. Shunsen depicts the 47 ronin ransacking Moronao’s residence as they search for the man who precipitated the death of Lord En’ya. As the resolution of the vendetta sworn by the 47 ronin, the so-called Night Attack of the 47 R nin was the highlight of the entire play. Many woodblock-print artists celebrated performances of Ch shingura by designing single-sheet, diptych, and triptych versions of the Night Attack as independent works of art.
