Engraved, in cursive: S.O. [for Susan Osborn (1772–1844]); the engraving almost certainly was added to the cann during Osborn’s life and quite likely before her 1808 marriage to Wesley Perkins Balch (1766–1827). Marked, to left of handle [Kane “F”]: HURD [in rectangle]
