Label
Celebrated photographer Ansel Adams here depicts an aspen forest during autumn in the mountains of northern New Mexico. Silhouetted against the murky depths of a forest interior, the leaves of this young aspen tree glow with reflected light. Unlike most deciduous trees, aspen stands are a clonal colony rather than a group of individual specimens. United by a shared root structure, an aspen grove constitutes a single massive organism that can live for tens of thousands of years.
