Black Silk Evening Dress

about 1953
Black floor-length, sheath-style, evening gown made of silk faille. Dress is decorated with embroidered black velvet appliqué of roses and leaves on the bodice and shoulder. The skirt back has three godet pleats to facilitate walking and dancing.

Provenance
Mrs. Wheeler gave the evening dress to the Hood Museum costume collection in November 1980. The dress was not given an accession number and catalogued until 2010. (M. Spicer 2010)
