Famous for its production of pressed glass, the versatile Boston and Sandwich Glass Company also manufactured blown, mold-blown, cut, and enameled glass.
To make this decanter’s rare “double-patterned” design, the gather of hot glass was given an initial impression of vertical ribs in a dip mold before expanding into the full-size, hinged mold made of three parts. The trailed decorative thread, or “snake,” that encircles the neck of the decanter was applied after the glass was removed from the mold, and gives the form an especially artful flourish.
