Wooden box with 2 holes on each side. Two wires stretch length of box (one missing). Tightened by ivory screws with spindle and worm gear mounted on plates. Back of plates engraved "WAVERLY M.D. CO." Top of box has 2 scales on it--one marked "diatonic" meter scale and the other "equally tempered scale." Two pulleys on end opposite ivory screws. Weights hung from these would change tension, changing the frequency of the sound produced.
Overall: 42 × 4 1/2 × 5 1/4 in. (106.7 × 11.4 × 13.3 cm)
