Provenance

Propery of Sarah Thompson, Countess of Rumford (1739-1792), or to her daughter Sarah Thompson (1774-1852) [Sarah Thompson was married to Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford (1753-1814), the inventor of the Rumford fireplace.]; collected by John F. Marion, a Philadelphia journalist/author who was working on a biography of Rumford when he died; given to Baker Library by his brother, Edward P. Marion of Exton, Pennsylvania, in 1992; catalogued by present collection 2001.
