The Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth, welcomes Haely Chang as its inaugural Jane and Raphael Bernstein Associate Curator of East Asian Art. This new position responds to the museum's strategic goals of further expanding the collection's influence and deepening relationships across local, regional, and global communities.
Chang holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, an MA from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from Hongik University in the History of Art. A scholar of modern Korean and Japanese art, Chang completed her dissertation in 2023 on the interactions between painting and photography in early twentieth-century Korea. She has held previous positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Chang will work to expand, research, and exhibit the collection of Asian art at the Hood Museum. Her goals include cross-referencing and digitizing collection material for greater accessibility, exhibiting on pertinent themes of race, gender, diaspora, and the environment, and publishing a catalogue that highlights the museum's holdings of Asian art.
Chang will join a dynamic team of Hood curators including Associate Director of Curatorial Affairs and Curator of Indigenous Art Jami Powell, Jonathan Little Cohen Associate Curator of American Art Michael Hartman, Associate Curator of Photography Alisa Swindell, Barbara C. and Harvey P. Hood 1918 Curator of Academic Programming Amelia Kahl, Andrew W. Mellon Associate Curator of Academic Programming Elizabeth Mattison, and Associate Curator of Collections Ashley Offill.
