For all ages! Join us for this free drop-in program and enjoy our new exhibitions From the Field: Tracing Foodways through Art and Immersive Worlds: Real and Imagined. Create yarn art with hoop weaving, check out a short film screening, enter a free raffle to win surprise goodies, and enjoy some light snacks! rePlay Arts will also be joining us with a selection of upcycled art supplies for you to take home. 

IN THE GALLERIES:
Short Film Screening | 1:15–2:15 pm

Join us in the Hood Museum’s Gilman Auditorium, on the lower level, for special screenings of three short films that discuss different “foodways.”

1. Kumu Niu (14 minutes, 54 seconds) Watch how the grassroots organization “Niu Now” works to restore the “niu,” or coconut, as a fundamental food crop in Hawaiʻi and spread the Indigenous wisdom of “aloha ʻāina:” loving land and serving people.  
2. El Cacao: The Challenge of Fair Trade (20 minutes) This film exposes the dark side of chocolate production in Panama. It examines the economics of Fair Trade from the perspective of indigenous farmers as they navigate the international chocolate industry. 
3. Time, Terroir, Taiwan: Soy Sauce Brewing in XiLuo (13 minutes, 20 seconds) This film documents the story of Yu Ding Xing, soy sauce brewers in Central Taiwan, as they make traditional Taiwanese soy sauce by hand. It offers a portrait of the brewers and Taiwan's terroir and examines its past and future.

2:30–3:00 pm: Storytime in the Galleries
Join us for a special Storytime in the Galleries in the exhibition Immersive Worlds: Real and Imagined (second floor) and plunge into the world of abstract art.

IN THE ATRIUM:
1:00–4:00 pm: Community Quilt: Felt Your Favorite Food

Use felt to make a still life of your favorite food. Take your masterpiece home or add it to our community quilt! 

1:00–4:00 pm: Circle Weaving with rePlay Arts 
Try your hand at hoop weaving. rePlay Arts will be giving away a selection of yarn for you to take home! Enter a free raffle between 1:00 pm and 2:50 pm to win other prizes.

3:00 pm: Raffle & Snack Station
Grab a snack and try your luck at winning a prize with our free raffle. Three raffle winner(s) will be drawn will be at 3:00 pm, you must be present to win.
