View of the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, Sergievo, Russia, one of the most important architectural and historical monuments of medieval Russia, founded in 1340 and endowed with tremendous riches. The photograph shows four domes of the five domed Uspensky (Assumption) Cathedral, built in the 16th century and containing the tomb of Boris Godunoff. Left of this is the18th century belfry of the Monastery, one of the most remarkable in Russia, in front of which is the upper structure of the Troitsky ( Trinity) Cathedral, begun in 1427, and containing a collection of ecclesiastical metal work, textiles and ikons.
