Provenance
Ex-Coll: "This tankard is in original fine condition and is engraved with initials on the back of handle (FIM) for owners Jacob Fuller, born May 14, 1655 in Woburn, died in Middleton, November 15, 1731, married Mary Bacon, who died July 17, 1741 aged 81 in Middleton, Massachusetts. It is probable that the initials on bottom base (FWE) are for William Fuller, born November 330, 1685, who married Elizabeth Goodale; as Edith Alden Sprague last owner of this family Tankard writes that it has been handed down from her father, Rev. Ebenezer Alden, Marshfield, who died January 4, 1899, from his father Dr. Ebenezer Alden, Randolph, born July 4, 1755, died October 16, 1806, who married Sarah Bass, from his father, Dr. Ebenezer Alden, also of Randolph, Massachusetts, who married Anne Kimball, daughter of Capt. Edmund Kimball, who was married into the Fuller family and through whom the tankard came from the Fullers to the Aldens." Virginia Museum of Fine ArtsExhibition, "Masterpieces of American Silver," 1960. Sold by Robert Ensko, Inc., New York, New York; sold to Frank L. Harrington, Sr. (1902-1988) and Louise Cronin Harrington (1904-2000), Worcester, Massachusetts, February 1958; given to present collection, 1970.
