Given to Ernest Fox Nichols (1869-1924), President of Dartmouth College (1909-1916) by the Mitsui family, in gratitude for his care of Takanage Mitsui (1892-1962), Class of 1915, during a medical emergency; by descent in the Nichols family; to his nephew, Arthur Clough Nichols (1895-1965), Class of 1915; to his son, Arthur N. Nichols, Class of 1945, Santa Rosa, California; given to present collection, 2017.
